LOTR Day 2023 (Lord of the Rings Trilogy Marathon)

Preparation for LOTR Day begins months in advance–and here’s why:

The long and short of it is that LOTR day is a lot of eating, a lot of cooking, a lot of cleaning and preparation, choices about when to serve what and what to serve for each meal, as well as who is spending the night the evening of or the evening before because we start early, and finally: deciding on what little “extras” we want to include like everyone singing a specific LOTR song or raising swords at particular moments. (LOL. Nerds.)

I made lembas bread and miruvor. The miruvor is a peachy-chamomile tea, honey and whiskey/elderberry liqueur mixture. And it was delicious! Did not take notes on how much of each thing I put in and it is 100% a guessing game each year, but it turned out nicely.

The lembas bread is a cross between a flatbread and a shortbread cookie. It’s not very sweet, but it has a tiny taste of cinnamon and lemon in it–and is definitely what I imagine when they’re taking it along in the movies. (and the book, too!)

I also took the time to enneagram type each LOTR character during the movie marathon, so I will post my run-down for that ASAP. I was gladly surprised to find plenty of evidence that Eowyn, Aragorn, and I share a primary type (6) and that while Aragorn does not share my wing (7), Eowyn does!

Anyway, I was not 100% focused (my head was in the clouds if you know what I mean), and thus I missed out on snapping some of the meals. Lol. but I did take quite a few photos, so I’ll show you those!

I did go for a run morning of before we began. I’ve been trying to run 1 1/2 miles every day or every other day for the last couple of weeks and I haven’t been totally consistent, but it’s going well so far! The sunrise was absolutely gorgeous and it was nice to get out before being locked away inside.

When I got home, I changed into my Eowyn dress. Dan was being Faramir, Tim was being a hobbit, Andy was Frodo (although he didn’t go all out in costume this year), Bailey was being Arwen and Lulu was also a hobbit.

Morning kickstarted with muffins and sausage. TBH I was so busy I just didn’t grab a photo of it :’)

Opening ceremonies. A poem read, a song, some cool points and some ground rules and instruction, like where is the bathroom? lol

Peep my DOPE Harry Potter lights I hung up several weeks ago <3

Bailey in Arwen dress and Kate in the floor prior to first movie start. LOL.

Second breakfast is SERVED. This meal included

  • Stuffed and sauteed mushrooms, sauteed tomatoes with thyme, biscuits and herb bread, bacon and sausage, jams and jellies.

Moving on….

Big screen movie watchin’!

Elevenses! This meal included:

  • Lembas bread, caramel apple pecan scones, biscuits, sliced apples, muffins, bread with preserves and glasses of spiked cider.

“One bite can sustain a grown man for a week!” – Legolas
“How many did you eat, Pip?”…. “Four.”

Okay, moving on…

Luncheon! <3

This meal included:

  • Potato soup, meat pies, potato fries, herb bread and butter.

Tea wasn’t far behind and at around 2 PM we had:

  • Scones, biscuits with Irish butter and jam, little tea cakes and tarts and TEA obviously, as well as miruvor and beer.

DINNER! <3 It will SHOCK you, but even after serving all of the previous meals, nearly every bite of that turkey and half of the cake was GONE when I returned to the kitchen. XD For this meal, we had:

  • Roasted carrots and potatoes, roasted turkey tenderloin, Bilbo’s birthday cake, roasted zucchini, stuffed mushrooms, bread and Irish Butter.

Our “with dinner” drink of choice^ -Perfection.

And I 100% forgot a picture of Supper AND the digestif of doom, which is–

Supper: basically charcuterie. Lots of cheese, sausage, bacon, salami, turkey, wine, green olives, figs and dates, potato fries, pork pies, etc.

Digestif of Doom: Strawberries and Cream on the Slopes of Mount Doom right as Sam says “first strawberries with cream” –YASSSS.

Had the best time, didn’t totally wear myself out this year and I’m already pumped for next year.

And that’s a wrap!

Side note: we try to host this every year as close to Bilbo’s birthday as we possibly can hence why we’ve held it every year in September. 🙂

Okay bye!

I’ve been browsing online greater than 3 hours today, yet I by no
    means discovered any attention-grabbing article
like yours. It’s beautiful price sufficient for me.
In my view, if all site owners and bloggers made excellent content material as you probably did, the net will be a lot more useful than ever before.
